Hog Hunting:This is in a major agricultural area, with lots of corn, milo and wheat, interlaced by wooded creek bottoms, small woodlots and pasture land. Wild hogs are plentiful. According to TPWD, this is the densest WILD hog population area in the whole state. And because of the food they get, some of these pigs get BIG! The county record is nearly 700 pounds. Predators, like coyote and bobcat, may also be taken at no extra charge. You can also shoot any and all raccoons, opossum, skunk, civet or ringtail that you see.Hunts are generally conducted from blinds. Most are enclosed and elevated, but we also use pop-up type blinds where they make sense, and for handicap accessibility. Some areas are available for those that want to still hunt, or spot and stalk. Night hunts are from blinds only. The feeders set up near each blind have hog lights on them for the night hunts. They are NOT like daylight, but provide enough light that with good optics and good eyes, you can make out the outline of a hog enough to shoot them where you should. .. Duck and Goose Hunting:
We have access to a some soil conservation lakes and dozens of farm ponds and beaver ponds for duck hunting, and several thousand acres of corn and wheat fields for goose hunting. . Waterfowl hunting pressure in the general area is very light compared to places like Katy or Eagle Lake. We also limit the number of hunters and hunts that we take each week so the birds aren't quite as spooky as they are elsewhere in Texas. . Depending on circumstances, goose loungers, lay out blinds, or waterproof parkas are provided for field shoots, to help keep you dry, and help blend you into the decoy spread. Comfortable, semi-pit blinds are generally used for duck hunts at the managed wetlands, but we also do some "wild" hunts when we must. . What this all means to you is: our decoyed bird action is still very strong, and our birds on the strap per gun average rivals any outfitter in the state. . On our normal by the day waterfowl hunt, the guide meets you at about 4:30 a.m. at the local motel or a predesignated meeting spot. You follow him to the field or water in your vehicle. You assist in placing out decoys. You shoot any duck or goose that the guide calls the shot on from legal time to about 11:00 a.m. You assist in picking up decoys. Policy is to be out of the fields by noon to allow birds some time to get back into the area undisturbed, helping to assure that they are there for the next hunt. . We will deliver birds for mounting to our local taxidermist, but you are responsible for taxidermy fees and shipping. Plan to take your other birds with you. There are no bird processors in the area. . |

Lake Navarro Mills consistently ranks as one of the best crappie fishing lakes in the state. Aquilla Lake is an excellent largemouth bass hole. Hubbard Lakes is a pleasant place to run a fly or lure for numerous species. Catfish are usually hungry and plentiful. So, what do you want to catch? OR, maybe shoot instead of catch? The Brazos River and Aquilla Lake are both excellent bowfishing. We do it all here, and often, so we can put you on the fish. Give us a try. |
