Big 8 Point Whitetail Bucks . We just got permission to run some last minute management class buck hunts on one pasture of a large south Texas ranch. This pasture is 3000 acres. The game survey has revealed that there are way too many mature 8 points there (5 and 1/2 years old and older) and too many does. We feel confident that in two full days of hunting, you will get a good shooting opportunity on one of these nice bucks. Most of them will score between 125 and 135, but if an ancient buck walks out and has the 8 points, the guide will let you take it even if goes over that score a little bit. Considering that the P&Y Record Book accepts bucks that net score 125 or higher, these are pretty darned nice deer you'd be taking. The hunts will be fully guided at a two hunter per guide rate. After you take your buck, you may also take two does. For those who care about such things, this is NOT technically a high fence ranch. Part of the perimeter has been fenced by the neighbors, but about 1/3 of the sides remain open. The price for two or three gunners is only $2250 each and includes lodging (no meals but a basic equipped kitchen and barbeque pit are there)(lodge is Plain Jane, but it'll keep the rain and sun, heat and cold off you, and it has a good, hot shower). It also includes on ranch transportation and full guide service. The price for four gunners is just $1995 each. This is a five deer, three buck county, so if someone would like to get multiple packages, we can run them simultaniously and give you the multi-gun price. EXAMPLE: two guns buy two packages each; a total of four packages. Each package would be $1995 instead of the $2250 price. In this example, we would also throw in one more day of hunting (if needed) to be pretty darned sure you got the chance to get both of your bucks. You would NOT be able to take four does, since that would be six deer total and the limit is five. . Those are: San Antonio, Choke Canyon Lake (about 75 miles south of San Antonio), Hubbard (about 75 miles southeast of Dallas), and Bay City (about 100 miles south of Houston). In past years, we have had no problem keeping our days booked up pretty solid, but the record drought of the last two years pretty much brought our duck hunting guide service to a stand still. WELL, THE WATER IS BACK! This has been a record WET year! Not only do we have the water this year, we have the food, too. Our managed ponds at SA and Hubbard are loaded up with Duckweed, Coontail, Pondweed, Millet Grass, Jap Burr, Smartweed and other preferred duck foods. One pond is actually partially flooding a harvested corn field. Choke Canyon is also full of things that ducks like to eat. The point of all this being, when the big surge of ducks get to Texas this year, they are going to want to stay. It should be awesome hunting. Even our early season stuff has been decent. I have shot a limit each time I've picked up a gun so far. The take has been a few teal and gadwall, a wad of black bellied whistlers, and a good number of widgeon. This is the way to load up the freezer and maybe even get the kid's or wife out on a shoot 'em up type hunt. This hunt will take place on 1500 acres in the Hill Country of Texas, near the city of Junction. There is an estimated 350 plus whitetails on this place, plus exotics and some varmints. This hunt is for one OR two people at a time. It will be fully guided, out of comfortable blinds, overlooking feeders and food plots. The one or two people together will take the first five animals that show up on our "hit list" (that's 5 total, NOT EACH). The hit list consists of; dry whitetail doe deer, spike whitetail bucks, older whitetail bucks with way undersized antlers, and feral hogs. Hogs are very rare, but we do see one every now and again. I would plan on a least 4 of the 5 animals being whitetail deer. You may take unlimited coyotes and other varmints after the first 5 animals, or shoot more of the "hit list" critters for just $200 each. . The price of this hunt package is usually $1500 for a pair of hunters (that's total, NOT EACH), but for this special, which will be to the first 10 pairs of hunters that sign up and get me a deposit, it will be Just $1200 TOTAL, NOT EACH! A single hunter may buy a full package for just $1000 total. Again, that's TOTAL, NOT EACH FOR THAT PAIR! The hunt may last up to 2 full days, or 1 full day and two half days (like Friday afternoon to Sunday midday). You also get 2 night's of lodging in the on ranch hunter's cabin (no meals provided). You must gut, skin and quarter your own animals, or we can do it for an added $30 per animal. There is on ranch cold storage for you to use, but bring a big ice chest or two for transporting game home. . Would you rather shoot axis deer? It's only an extra $75 to take an axis doe in place of one of the whitetails, OR book an all axis package for a total extra of just $250. . There will also be the in-field option of shooting management class whitetails and exotics for an extra charge, and there are a limited number of trophy animals available, as well. Each of these management and trophy animals are priced on a case by case basis. A nice management buck will run about $1650, but that class of buck could run anywhere from $950 to $2500 depending on antler size and conformation.
